  • Sandostatin — solution for intravenous and subcutaneous administration, 0.05 mg/ml, 0.1 mg/ml and 0.5 mg/ml, supplied in five 1-ml ampoules per carton. The medicine is used to treat acromegaly, a rare condition in which the body produces too much growth hormone, as well as certain neuroendocrine tumors.
  • Iodobalance — 200 mcg tablets. The medicine contains potassium iodide and is used to prevent and treat iodine deficiency.

Why the medicines were withdrawn

The committee explained that the registration certificates were revoked following voluntary requests from their holders or authorized representatives.

The revocation of a registration certificate is provided for under Kazakhstan’s legislation.

Under the rules, the authorized healthcare body may suspend or prohibit the use, sale or production of a medicine or medical device, withdraw it from circulation, or restrict its use.

At the same time, the agency noted that medicines and medical devices imported into or manufactured in Kazakhstan before their registration certificates expired may continue to be used.
