Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan will no longer regulate prices for more than 1,200 medicines, citing the press service of the Ministry of Healthcare.
Which medicine prices will no longer be restricted
According to the Healthcare Ministry, medicines costing up to 1 MCI — 4,325 tenge — are being removed from state price regulation. Previously, maximum prices were set for them.
“This measure is aimed at developing competition, expanding the range of products and increasing the availability of medicines for the population. As a result of deregulation, more than 1,200 items will switch to market-based price formation mechanisms,” the ministry said.
The Healthcare Ministry believes this will allow market participants to set prices independently, taking supply and demand into account.
Which medicine prices will be controlled
There are currently 1,827 items remaining on the list of medicines subject to state price regulation. Before the changes, there were slightly more than 3,000.
“Thus, state regulation is becoming more targeted and focused on medicines for which it is necessary to ensure additional protection of affordability for the population,” the press release said.
The changes to the list of medicines subject to price regulation for wholesale and retail sale are set out in the Healthcare Ministry’s order dated September 4, 2026.
