Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan is revoking the registration certificate of the medicine RotaTeq, a vaccine used to prevent rotavirus infection in infants. A Tengrinews.kz correspondent looked into the reason behind the decision.
RotaTeq is a live oral vaccine used to prevent rotavirus infection in infants. It comes as a 2-milliliter oral solution and contains weakened forms of rotavirus, including five live virus strains.
The registration certificate holder is Merck Sharp & Dohme IDEA GmbH, Switzerland.
The order revoking the registration certificate was signed on October 1, 2026, by the acting chair of the Health Ministry’s Pharmacy Committee.
The committee explained that the registration certificate for the medicine was revoked at the voluntary request of its holder or an authorized representative.
The agency also noted that the decision to revoke a registration certificate is provided for under Kazakhstan’s legislation.
At the same time, the agency said that medicines and medical devices imported into or manufactured in Kazakhstan before the registration certificate expires may continue to be used.
