Tengrinews.kz — Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has instructed officials to monitor complaints from Kazakhstanis about side effects and insufficient effectiveness of medicines. He made the statement at a government meeting.
On ineffective medicines
Bektenov recalled that from January 1, 2027, supervisory powers in the field of medicines and medical devices will be expanded.
“The quality and safety of medicines are of critical importance. Complaints from citizens about the insufficient effectiveness and adverse reactions of certain drugs must be continuously monitored,” the Prime Minister stressed.
Free medicines for patients with chronic conditions
Olzhas Bektenov also addressed the system for providing free medicines. According to him, priority should be given to people with chronic conditions who require continuous treatment.
“It is necessary to ensure a clear and convenient procedure for obtaining medicines. Every patient should know which medicines are provided free of charge, where and when they can be obtained, and whom to contact if difficulties arise, including when a familiar medicine is replaced with a product from another manufacturer. The reasons for the replacement and instructions for use must be explained clearly,” he said.
He added that it is especially important to simplify access to medicines for parents of children who require long-term treatment. They should not face difficulties because of a lack of information or unnecessary bureaucratic procedures.
Earlier, we reported that from October 27, Kazakhstan will change the procedure for removing certain medicines from special control. This concerns medicines containing small amounts of narcotic and psychotropic substances, as well as precursors. Read more about it here.
