Tengrinews.kz — A 13-year-old boy in Almaty fell from the eighth floor and suffered multiple fractures, brain injuries and damage to internal organs. The child required several operations. The city’s Health Department press service shared details of the incident.
Multiple fractures to arms and legs: what happened
A 13-year-old boy was brought by ambulance to Almaty City Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 1.
“He was in extremely serious condition. The child fell from the eighth floor, from a height of about 24 meters, directly onto the asphalt,” the press service said.
Doctors diagnosed the boy with a closed traumatic brain injury, brain contusion, multiple fractures to the bones in his arms and legs, as well as injuries to the chest and abdominal organs.
“As a result of the injuries, the teenager went into shock. He was urgently transferred to the anesthesiology, resuscitation and intensive care unit,” the statement said.
Doctors spent the first two days stabilizing his condition
Medetali Makulbekov, head of the intensive care unit at City Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 1, said doctors immediately began anti-shock therapy after the boy was admitted. Their priority was to stabilize his circulation and support the function of vital organs.
“When the child’s condition improved slightly, he was transferred to the operating room for surgical treatment,” the department head said.
“The fact that the child survived can itself be called a miracle”
Kurmetbek Toktar, deputy director of City Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 1, said that given the nature and severity of the injuries, doctors decided to perform four operations. All of them were successful. The treatment involved traumatologists, surgeons, intensive care specialists and an anesthesiologist.
“It is difficult to put into words how serious the situation was. A fall from the eighth floor is an extremely severe injury. Under such circumstances, the very fact that the child survived can be called a great miracle,” Kurmetbek Toktar said.
According to him, the patient’s condition is now improving. He has been discharged from the hospital, but will still need further treatment, recovery and a rehabilitation course in December.
