Tengrinews.kz — Kazakhstan plans to raise salaries for some healthcare workers. Around 77,000 specialists may become eligible for additional payments based on continuous work experience. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced this in his Address to the people of Kazakhstan, according to the Ministry of Healthcare.

Who will get a pay rise and how much will experience-based bonuses increase

According to the Ministry of Healthcare, the additional payments will apply to employees of district-level primary healthcare services. The amount will depend on the length of continuous work experience.

The ministry proposes the following bonus rates:

  • more than two years of continuous service — 20 percent of the base salary;
  • more than three years — 30 percent;
  • more than five years — 50 percent.

This means specialists with more than five years of continuous service will be eligible for the maximum bonus. However, the final amount will depend on the employee’s base salary and place of work.

How much will doctors and nurses earn in rural areas

General practitioners with the maximum length of service working in rural areas are expected to receive the highest salaries after the bonuses are introduced.

According to the Ministry of Healthcare, their salaries, including the bonus, could rise from 534,000 to 760,000 tenge.

Mid-level medical staff in rural areas may also see higher incomes. Salaries for specialists with the maximum length of service could increase from 284,000 to 401,000 tenge, the ministry said.

Healthcare workers with shorter service records will also be eligible for bonuses. For example, the salary of a general practitioner in a rural area could rise from 386,000 to 450,000 tenge.

For mid-level medical staff, the amount could increase from 221,000 to 256,000 tenge.

How salaries will change in cities

Salaries for district-level healthcare workers in cities are also expected to increase.

According to the Ministry of Healthcare’s calculations, a general practitioner with the maximum length of service could earn up to 607,000 tenge, compared with the current 425,000. The salary of mid-level medical staff with the same length of service could rise from 224,000 to 318,000 tenge.

Additional payments are also planned for specialists with minimum service records. A general practitioner could earn up to 358,000 tenge instead of 307,000, while salaries for mid-level medical staff could increase from 173,000 to 202,000 tenge.

Under the President’s instruction, the government is to raise salaries for district-level healthcare specialists starting January 1 next year.
